PSAI POSTGRADUATE SUPPORT

The Political Studies Association of Ireland has established a scheme to support postgraduate members of the Association (in politics departments or departments of cognate subjects). The scheme's annual cycle runs from 1 September to 31 August, the deadline for applications for the 2009-10 round of awards is therefore 31 August 2010.

The scheme is intended to support postgraduate members giving political studies-oriented papers at academic conferences and/or engaging in field research. It is limited to one application per academic year per institution in Ireland. Applications are made by the Head of Department/Postgraduate Director. Applications should be made in advance of the presentation/fieldwork. The PSAI will fund each application from each department by up to €250.

In addition, one award each year of up to €250 will be made to a postgraduate member of the Association studying in a non-Irish institution.

Please note that PSAI members can apply for financial support to help attend the annual PSAI postgraduate conference.

The conditions to this scheme are:

  • That each recipient be a PSAI member;
  • that reference to PSAI sponsorship is noted on any consequent relevant publications;
  • that the PSAI is supplied with proper receipts documenting at least €250 expenditure;
  • that each successful applicant provides the PSAI with a brief (2-3 paragraph) report on the specific activity which the funding supported, to be circulated at the AGM; and
  • an individual postgraduate PSAI member may only receive this funding once.

Each Head of Department is therefore urged to nominate one of their postgraduate students who is a PSAI member and who will either deliver a conference presentation or conduct field research during the 2009-10 academic year, no later than 31 August 2010 to: Theresa Reidy, Department of Government, O'Rahilly Building, University College Cork, Cork, Republic of Ireland; email: T.Reidy@ucc.ie.
